About the ecotrail
The nature trail is quite challenging and consists of a continuous three-kilometer ascent, part of which runs along an exposed slope. And on sunny summer days, it gets very hot along the route. Therefore, this hike is best suited for visitors with experience in mountain hiking and good physical fitness.
The Polikarya Waterfall gets its name from the Greek word παλικάρι, meaning “hero.” It stands a full 72 meters tall! A rocky ledge divides the stream into two branches, which crash against the rocks with tremendous force as they fall.
The waterfall is formed by the Rzhany Stream—the largest watercourse on the slopes of the Krasnaya Polyana Resort. It is fed by meltwater and precipitation falling on the Aibga Ridge, so it is at its fullest in May and June. However, it never dries up completely.
In the area where the Polikarya Waterfall is located, there are several other waterfalls of varying sizes.
Highlights of the route:
- broadleaf forest and flowering plants
- observation deck
- panoramic views
- giant beech trees
- waterfalls in the upper reaches of the Rzhany Stream
When planning your trip, we recommend taking your health into account and objectively assessing your physical capabilities.
