About the ecotrail
Polikarya Waterfall is formed by the fall of Rzhany Creek, the largest stream on the slopes of the Krasnaya Polyana Resort. The stream is fed by meltwater and precipitation falling on the Aibga Ridge. However, it never dries up completely. Polikarya Waterfall reaches a height of 72 meters! A rocky outcrop divides the stream into two branches, which crash against the rocks with devastating force as they fall.
Bear Waterfall is located at the source of Tobias Creek in the Cirque-2 Valley at an altitude of 1,970 meters above sea level. It is a type of inclined waterfall; unlike Polikarya, it does not fall over a cliff, but flows down a slope. Both waterfalls reach their greatest power during the heavy snowmelt in May and June.
The waterfalls are located three kilometers apart at different altitudes. You can see both natural attractions in one day. To do this, descend from the Cirque-2 zone through Medvezhy Waterfall to the upper station of the Polikar Waterfall cable car, dropping 770 meters. Then, you'll need to climb 215 meters to reach Polikar. For a more comfortable hike, we recommend hiring a guide at the resort's "What to Do" activity center.
Highlights of the route:
- snowfield
- broadleaf forest and subalpine crooked forest
- chapel of Saints Vera, Nadezhda, Lyubov, and their mother Sophia
- panoramas of the Main Caucasus Range
- waterfalls
When planning your hike, we recommend considering your health and objectively assessing your physical capabilities.
