About the ecotrail

The eco-trail passes through the alpine meadows of the Cirque-3 Valley, past high-mountain lakes—upper Iceberg and lower Cold Lake—formed by avalanches descending from the steep slopes of the Black Pyramid and Aibga 3 (Sedaya) spurs. The enormous impact force of the snow masses created pits, and melting snow fills them with water. The Rzhanoy Stream, which reaches its maximum strength on the rocky outcrops of Polikarya Waterfall, is fed, among other things, by these lakes. During dry and hot seasons, the lakes can dry up by autumn, and they are usually hidden under snow until July.

What you'll see:

  • alpine meadows and endemic species of the Western Caucasus;
  • mountain lakes;
  • the source of the mountain stream that feeds Polikarya Waterfall;
  • panoramas of the mountain peaks Fisht, Oshten, Chugush, Assara, and Pseashkho;
  • the Achishkho massif.
